it is a mesmerizing sight: a man at his place.
if you have a chance, make 40 minutes to watch Terry Sanders’ 1967 “Portrait of Zubin Mehta” documentary.
the last scene is Zubin conducting Mussorgsky / Ravel “Pictures at an Exhibition”, and he is just intense. razor focused, fully immersed, leading and feeling, Zubin is a spectacle to watch.
“you lead with your eyes, and speak with your heart”
says the trailer to the movie, and that you get, pure raw emotion of “a man at his place“, i thought.
this footage reminded me of the images of a lion chasing a doomed victim.. gorgeous, graceful, pure instinct at full display, fascinating pictures of an animal in its prime moments of raison d’etre – and in Zubin’s case, intense, unleashed creativity and grace.
a man at his place is a rare. and as a force, it’s fierce and electrifying.
go out. look for it. in others. notice and observe. feed on it.
and better yet, feed it in you. you, are you a man at your place?
